Wii Fit: The Next Frontier
Yesterday I had to go and buy a new toothbrush, and so after accomplishing that necessary task I decided to reward myself by looking through electronics at the store to see if they mis-marked any items ($200 item accidentally marked $20). I went to the aisle that had all their Wii gear and began looking when I saw that their was a Wii Fit just sitting there.
As many people know, the Wii Fit is a hot commodity right now in America. Most Americans are realizing how fat we actually are, and so what better way to get in shape than to create “TV that you do” (that’s mine, don’t try to take it). So I was reading the back of the packaging and thinking over whether or not I should get one of these new toys for myself. I called my girlfriend, talked it over, she gave me the old, “Its your money,” which means there is no way she would get it but since we aren’t married I can’t technically tell you not to buy it. So after that call I was continuing to think about it while holding it. At this point a mom with her kid in the cart came down my aisle with an intense look and began to look quickly through the different Wii games. She looked over to me holding the Wii Fit and she asked me in a very serious tone, “ARE YOU GOING TO BUY THAT WII FIT?” It was almost like she wanted to kick me in the throat and just take it, but she had a kid with her so she couldn’t do that…plus I would’ve totally been able to kick her butt if need be.
When she asked that question, I realized that this woman desperately wanted that one, final Wii Fit in the store. So what did I do? I said, “Yes, I’m buying it.” I know that I said it without thinking, and the more I think about it now I may have just done it because I knew that my answer was the exact opposite of what she actually wanted me to say…I’ll have to continue to think on that one. Anyways, she left hurriedly and now there I was with the Wii Fit that I just told the scary intense mom I was buying. But did I really want it? I walked around the store five times and thought through the pros and cons of buying it. I finally decided to just buy the thing, especially since I already and told a person that was what I was going to do.
I went home and this machine told me I was overweight and had awful balance, it even asked me if I tripped a lot. What the heck? I just paid all this money so that my TV screen could mock me! Eventually I decided to make it a goal to lose 20 lbs. over the next 6 months. Which winds up being 1.6 lbs every 2 weeks…reasonable. So here we go! The next phase of life: trying to lose weight and stay healthy. So long eating all I wanted and never gaining weight, farewell metabolism and all its benefits, and now I will see how the next frontier works: the Wii Fit…
